Defense Mechanism

We all use defensive tactics to avoid psychological threat, anxiety, discomfort and conflicts. Most of the defense mechanism is learned and fairly unconscious. That means most of us don’t realize we’re using them in the moment. Some types of psychotherapy can help a person become aware of what defense mechanisms they are using, how effective they are, and how to use less primitive and more effective mechanisms in the future.

Bringing awareness about defense mechanism will enable us to recognize and name defense strategies we, our partners and others around us are using to cope with stress, conflicts, trauma and competitions.. Understanding is essential in moving forward healthy communication and a healthy relationship. This understanding allows us to challenge our primitive defense mechanisms and adopt new more effective ones to be more strong and patient enough to listen to criticism, face competitions, and challenges of life and relationship.
